Siesta Key Sand Sculptures Announces Its Winners - $3000
Sand Sculptures: Master sculptors proved their talent when they traveled to the sandy beaches of Siesta Key. Siesta Key Sculptures holds an annual sculpture competition that is currently in its eighth year. Siesta Key is known for its white sand, which is ideal for sculpting. First-place winners Karen Fralich and Dan Belcher received $3000 for their stunning sculpture 'Winter Is Coming.' Second-place winners Helena Bangart and Fergus Mulvany received a $2500 cash prize for 'Water Dream.' The $1000 third-place cash prize was awarded for 'Reclamation,' sculpted by Steve Topazio and Ron MacDonald. The Sculptors' Choice Award was presented to Damon Langlois of Canada and Joris Kivits for their sculpture 'Catalytic Thinking.' This year, 12 teams from South Korea, Canada, Italy, the Czech Republic, Singapore, Ireland, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Portugal, and US states including California, Florida, Missouri, New York, Rhode Island, and Texas participated in the sculpture contest. The Siesta Key Sand Sculpture event grows larger and more famous every year, so sculptors from around the world should make sure to present their work in 2018.
