Sculpture at Scenic World 2018: $20,000 Major Award and Entry Details

Sculpture Contest & Exhibition

Sculpture at Scenic World 2018 invited artists to place recent work within the ancient rainforest of the Blue Mountains, turning a sensitive natural setting into an outdoor exhibition space. The seventh annual event was scheduled for April 13 to May 13, 2018, while submissions closed on November 20, 2017. Eligible works had to have been created and exhibited no earlier than January 1, 2016, and selected artists were considered for a prize pool worth more than $30,000. That included the $20,000 Scenic World Major Award, a $5,000 Artist Peer Award, a $3,000 Environmental Award, a $2,000 staff choice and a $1,000 people's choice prize. The setting added an unusual practical challenge: sculpture had to work visually among trees, rock and changing natural light while leaving no damaging trace on the environment. For artists and readers revisiting the call, Sculpture at Scenic World 2018 shows how site, material, scale and environmental care can become part of the creative brief rather than simply the backdrop.
